Motoguzzi Alce 500

Motoguzzi Alce 500

The Alce was born in 1939 to replace the Moto Guzzi GT 20, which in turn was derived in 1938 from the Moto Guzzi GT 17, which was in production from 1932 to 1939.

It remained in production until 1945. Between 1946 and 1948, the transition version Alce V was also produced in an unspecified number of units with hybrid characteristics between the two models (switch to overhead valves) and subsequently the Superalce version. The engine number is characterised in a first phase by the prefix AV (Alce Veloce) and in a second phase by the prefix SA (Superalce). The chassis numbers up to 1954 follow the numerical progression of all the single-cylinder 500s, and subsequently begin with the numbering S 00 AA up to the number S 79 AR of 1958. Also acquired by the Milizia della Strada and the Polizia dell'Africa Italiana, it was extensively used by the Royal Army during the Second World War on all fronts in all three versions: Single-seater, Two-seater and Equipped (i.e. the motorcycle sidecar version), with a total of 6390 examples between single and two-seaters and 669 sidecar examples. Between 1940 and 1943, Alce mechanics developed a military three-wheeler, the TriAlce, of which 1741 were produced. In the Royal Army it was assigned to all regiments as a scout and column guide vehicle; among others, it equipped entire regiments of motorcycle bersaglieri. A particular setup was the weapon holder, with a Breda Mod. 30 machine gun installed on a swivel mount on the front fork pin. The weapon could not be used while moving but the bike acted as a support for stationary fire. After the war, it remained in service with both the Italian Army and the Highway Police, to be replaced in 1948 by the Moto Guzzi Superalce (Wikipedia).
HD Models designed this model completely from scratch, based on original drawings and photos of some examples present in museums. The kit is printed in resin with high-resolution 3D printers, which allowed it to be reproduced in the smallest details. The proposed version is the one with double saddle and Breda Mod. 30 mounted on the steering tube via a bracket, which allowed it to be swiveled when the bike was stationary.
