A bit of history
The Opera Nazionale per i Combattenti was established at the end of World War I to provide economic, technical and moral assistance to surviving combatants. As part of the reclamation of the Agro Pontino, the O.N.C. was assigned the task of building Colonial houses to be delivered to the peasants who would be in charge of cultivating the reclaimed land. The O.N.C. built 3,040 houses. The fountains were designed specifically for the colonial houses. A specimen of the fountain is still preserved persso the Piana delle Orme Museum in Borgo Faiti (LT).
For those who are still passing through the province of Latina (formerly Littoria founded in 1932) today, one can still see the buildings with still the characteristics of the time including number and O.N.C. logo.
